The iconic Coventry Chair was designed by Dick Russell in 1960 to commemorate the reconstruction of Coventry Cathedral. He refrained from using curves to reveal the solemn atmosphere of mass. Also, he separated legs from the seat to enable staking. The perfect example of the phrase by modernists “Form follows Function”.
The Chair is now reinterpreted by Studio Wolke. The modern material UHPC(Ultra High Performance Concrete) is used in the back and seat of the chai, which are slightly angled for comport. To provide structural need and aesthetical purpose an armrest is added.
